What does behavior management mean and what does a Certified Obedience Instructor do?Usually, the first step people take when having behavioral issues with their dogs is to take them to obedience classes or dog training.
Obedience classes can be valuable, but they will not rehabilitate a dog with behavioral issues. As a Certified Obedience Instructor, I choose to specialize in dog behavior rather than dog training. If a dog is not in a stable state of mind and does not see you as the leader, he/she will not benefit from obedience classes from a behavioral perspective. Obedience training is nothing more than actions your dog associates with a word. If your dog considers him/herself the pack leader, he/she will follow your commands only when he/she sees fit to do so. I have chosen to train people. So often, we fail to see the animal in our dogs and treat them as humans. My job is to help people recognize the needs the animal you live with has and to help meet those needs. I provide more that just your typical dog training. In order to do this, I need to see you in your home and in a typical setting. The behavior you are having trouble with will need to be triggered in order for me to not only see the dog's behavior, but also to see how the human is addressing the behavior. Once I can diagnose the issue and its cause, I can prescribe the proper regimen you will need to follow in order to strike a balance between you and your dog.

"I truly believe that all dogs can be
helped. There are no evil dogs, and there are very few dogs who cannot
be rehabilitated regardless of their past behavior and/or breed." Stacy Hulen |
